How to protect your health from Winter Season?

Winter Season is known as healthy season from all seasons of the year. Our digestive fire is strong during this season. Reason behind this is mentioned in Charak Samhita as follows 

शीते शीतानिलस्पर्शसंरूध्दो बलिनां बली । पक्ता भवति हेमंते मात्राद्रव्यगुरुक्षमः।।

                                              (चरक)

When cold wind moves in surrounding it also touches our body where this cold wind block the fire inside our body instead of throughing out of our body. Hence our digestive fire increases in our body. So in this season we should have heavy intake of food or food which takes long time to digest.

Our Indian tradition create a great example of this in the form of Diwali festival. Where we eat snacks such as laadoo, chivda, sweets, dry fruits etc. This snacks are heavy and healthy to our body specially in winter season.

In Ayurveda it is recommended that we should eat Guru ahar to maintain our good digestion. According to charak samhita it is said that we should eat snighdha ( oily or sticky) , amla ( bitter) ,Lavan (sour)  food. This food are applicable who are healthy in all terms . Healthy person also can eat rabdi, malai,curd,fresh grown rice in this season.

Also in this winter season we should apply oil all over body use sticky Ubtan for skin care hair oil for head massage. Keep your body oily as surrounding climate makes your skin dry and rough. Hence in Diwali we start doing abhyanga snan and also use warm water for bathing.

सूर्य बल- क्षीणतम 

चंद्रबल  -पूर्णतम 

भूमंडल स्वभाव- स्निग्धतम

रसवृध्दी  - मधुर 

प्राणबल - श्रेष्ठ 

संचय - कफ 

प्रशम - पित्त 

In winter season include

1. Ginger in your diet as it has anti inflammation property ,antibacterial property ,sore throat, viral infection congestion etc.

2. Dalchini in your diet or use dalchini 1 teaspoon with one cup of warm water for sore throat .

3. Include ghee in your daily diet so that body gets enough nourishment and help your skin to moisturize throughout the season.

4. Eat peas as it contain rich source of fibre ,minerals , antioxidant properties.

5. Include Vitamin C rich fruits such as Papaya, oranges ,lemon etc. 

6. If you want, your body to stay warm and you can just boil saffron in milk and also add raisins to it.

7. Eat jaggery to stay warm and improve sore throat infection.

8. Drink warm water in the season.

9. Take sunbath everyday .

10. Avoid doing fasting in this season.

11. Have sufficient sleep .
