What is panchagavya?




The word ‘pancha’ means five and ‘gavya’ means cow. The five elements obtain from cow is termed as panchagavya. It is the immune booster which can lead to stay a healthy and disease free life style. Panchagavya includes following elements;
1.     Milk
2.     Ghee
3.     Buttermilk
4.     Gomutra
5.     Gobar (cow dung)

In this present era people are suffering from life style disorder such as diabetes, hypertension, depression, obesity, cancer and many more other diseases which are threatening to life. In such situation if one includes panchagavya in there day to day life than they can live a healthy and happy life . Panchgavya has the apex of total health for both physiological as well as psychological condition.
So let’s have over review on panchagavya elements.
Milk

The health effects of milk may depend on the breed of cow it came from so we should clear that what kind of milk should be included in diet.
1.     Milk is good for the bones because it offers a rich source of calcium, a mineral essential for healthy bones and teeth. Cow's milk is fortified with vitamin D, which also benefits bone health. 
2.     Cow's milk is a source of potassium, which can enhance vasodilation and reduce blood pressure.
3.     Cow's milk often fortified with vitamin D so adequate vitamin D levels support the production of serotonin, a hormone associated with mood, appetite, and sleep.
Currently, A2 milk is marketed as a healthier choice. Many people who drink a2 Milk say they love the difference.It’s the only milk that comes from specially chosen cows that naturally produce only the A2 protein which is healthy to intake.
Ghee


Ghee is typically prepared by simmering butter, which is churned from cream (traditionally made by churning dahi), skimming any impurities from the surface, then pouring and retaining the clear liquid fat while discarding the solid residue that has settled to the bottom. Spices can be added for flavor. The texture, color and taste of ghee depends on the quality of the butter, the milk source used in the process and the duration of time spent boiling.
Cow ghee promotes memory , intellect, power of digestion,semen, ojas, kapha and fat. It alleviates vata, pitta visha-toxic conditions unmade-insanity, shosha-emaciation, alakshmihara- it is auspicious. It is the best of all the unctuous substances, cold in potency and sweet both in taste as well as vipaka. When administered according to the prescribed procedure, it increases, thousand times in potency and develops manifold utilities.

1)     Meda – intoxication
2)     Apasmara- epilepsy
3)     Moorcha- fainting
4)     Shosha- emaciation
5)     Unmada- schizophrenia, insanity
6)     Gara- Remnant poisons
7)     Jwara- fever.
Buttermilk


Buttermilk is a fermented dairy drink. Traditionally, it was the liquid left behind after churning butter out of cultured cream. The drink is often consumed in Indian households as a digestive or during summer months to keep the body cool. It is definitely a refreshing drink to have. Buttermilk is also known as ‘Chaas’ or ‘Chaach’ in Hindi.
Buttermilk may offer several health benefits.
1.     Easier to digest.
2.     Support strong bones.
3.     Lower cholesterol level
4.     Reduce acidity
5.     Clear constipation.
6.     Skin care.
Gomutra

Cow urine has a unique place in Ayurveda. Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine from India routinely use cow urine as a remedy and the medicines made from it are used to cure several diseases. Cow urine can kill the number of drug resistant bacteria and viruses. The consitituents present in cow urine are  urea, Uric acid, Minerals, bioactive substance and hormones like nitrogen, sulphur, Ammonia, copper phosphate, iron, Manganese, Sodium,Potassium, Calcium, Urokinase, Epithelium growth factor, colony stimulating factor, Growth hormone, Erthropoetine, Gonadotropins, Kallikrin, Tripsyn Inhibitor, Anti-cancer substance like Anti-neoplaston, H-11 beta- iodole- acetic acid ,directine,3- methyl glonal etc, vit A,B,C,D,E, Swarna kshar, carbolic acid, Hippuric acid etc. Urea is a strong antibacterial agent. Uric acid helps to control cancer causing substances.In Ayurveda, Gomutra is claimed to be helpful in the treatment of leprosy and cancer. A mixture of gomutra, Triphala, and cow milk is used for the treatment of Anaemia. It is also used in the treatment of fever by mixing it with black pepper, yoghurt, and ghee (ghrita). A mixture of gomutra, neem bark, vasaka bark, kurilo bark, kaner leaves. A mixture of gomutra and dharuharidra is used for epilepsy.In study from Mandsaur has claimed that it may also benefit cancer patients. In religious ritual,sprinkling of cow urine is said to have a spiritual cleansing effect.

Gobar

1.     The smoke from burning cow dung has been found to repel insects, including mosquitoes. This has lead to the deliberate use of cow dung as an insect repellent in some areas. It would be interesting to know whether the smoke from the dung is a more effective repellent than the smoke from other fuels.
2.     Cow dung, which is usually a dark brown color is often used as manure (agricultural fertilizer). If not recycled into the soil by species such as earthworms and dung beetles, cow dung can dry out and remain on the pasture, creating an area of grazing land which is unpalatable to livestock.
3.     Known for its anti-bacterial properties, it is said that cow dung can be used as a body pack for detoxification and prevention of pimples. In its dry and powdered form, cow dung was used to treat skin diseases.
