International year of Millets :2023
2023 is declared as international year of millets by UN . Millets are the same seeds grasses which are good for environment with low water and inputs requirements. hence it is cost effective to farmers. More thn 90 percent of millets production is in Asian countries. India is a country known as country of farmers. Most of the states in India cultivates different varieties of millets.
This year is celebrated as Millets year so that people should get aware for production and consumptions of millets.
Millets include Ragi, bajra, porso, kodo, jowar, foxtail, browntop, barnyard , little millets.
It is also termed as superfood as it act as a preventive measures in following diseases
1. Weight loss
2. Daibetes
3. Hypertension
4. Heart diseases
5. GIT
6.Liver diseases.
7. skin diseases
8. Bad cholestrol high
There are two types of millets such as major and minor millets.
a) Major millets includes bajra, moong,ragi, jowar, porso.
b) Minor millets includes kutki, foxtail, kodo
Millets can be intake in different variety of recipes like idli, khichidi, halwa, cookies, roti , parathas etc.
Millets include compositions like Vitamin B3 , Vitamin B6, carotene, phosphorus, magnesium , potassium, calcium , lecithin, iron , zinc, fibre .
Millets contain some anti nutrients content which are difficult to absorb in body and create some kind of indigestion. So to take precaution one can soak milltes in water for 5 to 6 hours before use .
